Approved!

Our case was approved by the Family Court judge today!!!

Now, the lawyer has to get certified copies of the decree, draw up the Protocolo, have the birth mother sign it, get the new birth certificate, get a Guatemalan passport, and submit everything to the US Embassy to get a visa. Hopefully, this can all be accomplished in about six weeks.

Movement???

It appears some of the cases filed in family court are starting to be approved. I'm trying not to be overly optimistic as I know I'll just crash again in a few weeks.

Today, I mailed a check to the agency to cover Bobby's surgery. I'm so angry that this "urgent" procedure has now been waiting for three months. Absolutely ridiculous.

Possible hope?

I posted on adoption.com yesterday and found some other people that are in the same position I am. I don't feel so alone now and I'm even feeling a bit hopeful.

I heard from more than one person that the cases were only expected to take a week or two for a decision! Basically, the court is taking the place of PGN. The judge decides if PGN's previos were valid. If they aren't valid, the adoption is approved. If they are ruled valid, the attorney fixes the previos and the judge then approves the case. Everyone seems to think PGN is now out of the picture completely. Very interesting.

Status time

After our third kickout on 4/18, our lawyer decided to file our case in Family Court instead of putting us back into PGN. She felt PGN was playing games and causing unnecessary delays. It's not the usual process, so no one really knows for sure what's going to happen. I was told to figure about two months.

Our lawyer has been filing family court cases, based on the baby's age, every few days since the end of April. Our case was filed on my birthday, 5/3. I just found out that one of the cases she filed has already been approved. So, that could mean we'll see an approval in a few weeks, or it could mean nothing. We just don't know! We've gone from one arbitrary process to a different arbitrary process.

Our lawyer is also going on vacation next week so unless there's a huge surprise in the next few days, we won't hear anything else for a while.

On the medical side, we decided to go ahead with the circumcision, however the operation has still not been scheduled. Since it's not commonly done in Guatemala, I suppose they're looking for someone experienced. It will definitely not happen until after she returns from vacation.

On another note, we got an email from the foster mom on Bobby's first birthday last Friday. They were going to have a little celebration for him on Sunday. It was a huge surprise to get that email. We gave her our email address back in January but never heard anything. When we talked to her on the phone a few weeks ago, she apologized and said that email was too confusing for her. We told her not to worry about it.

So, that's the (lack of) news for now.

Happy 1st Birthday to my sweet baby boy

I can't wait to see you again .....

Our Florida Trip

To try to take our minds off the complete lack of progress and the total failure of communcation with our case, we decided to visit the in-laws for a week. Bob helped out a bit around the house and we managed to sneak in a day at the Magic Kingdom. Here are our trip photos.
